TOKYO--Toshiba Corporation today announced that it has undertaken a thorough review of its overall strategy for HD DVD and has decided it will no longer develop, manufacture and market HD DVD players and recorders. This decision has been made following recent major changes in the market. Toshiba will continue, however, to provide full product support and after-sales service for all owners of Toshiba HD DVD products.

Total Blu-ray Disc movie sales across Europe have reached over two million units
announced the Blu-ray Disc Association European Promotions Committee at a
press reception in London this week. The most recent figures show Blu-ray Disc
movie sales totaled 2.37 million, which means that 79% of the High Definition
movie discs bought by consumers year-to-date across Europe were in the Blu-ray
Disc format compared with 21% in the HD DVD format, according to sales data
provided by Media Control GFK International.

UK high street retail chain, Woolworths, reportedly the UK's biggest retailer of nextgen
DVD discs, is to exclusively back Blu-ray Disc moving forward this year. The chain has announced it is only to stock Blu-ray discs in store from March, with HD DVD movies being dropped from shop shelves, only to be sold online.

TDK announces two new write-once Blu-ray Discs capable of recording at 4x speed. The discs are available in both 25GB and 50 GB BD-R versions scheduled for shipping later this summer.

Pioneer Electronics is now shipping the BDC-2202 combination Blu-ray Disc BD-ROM/DVD/CD computer drive to retail stores. The drive comes bundled with Corel’s software for playback of multiple Blu-ray Disc formats. The software also provides reading and writing of data to DVD and CD formats.

The Blu-ray Disc Association announces a summer long promotion of Blu-ray Disc titles by major home entertainment distributors and consumer electronics manufacturers. Consumers are eligible to receive 5 free Blu-ray Disc titles when they purchase a qualifying BD player. The player must be purchased between July 1 2007 and September 30 2007.
